Ilana Mathias
Ilana is a hometown girl raised in Bethesda,
MD 20817. She likes a good adventure and has always
preferred the back roads to the highway. When she
was younger, she decided to become an anthropological author
(after reading Clan of the Cave Bear). While
she did take many writing classes at the University of Maryland,
and even a few anthropology classes, she graduated instead
with a |
BA in Dance. After
graduation, Ilana went on to fulfill yet another life long
dream to become a Montessori School teacher. In 2002 she
graduated from Loyola College and the Washington Montessori
Institute with a MA of Education and an Association Montessori
International diploma. After a few years of teaching,
Ilana went to Israel to fulfill, yes, another life long
dream: to gain a deeper understanding of Judaism. While
studying at the Shearim College for Women in Jerusalem,
Ilana met Scott and, well, to make a long story short,
they got married J (this is a good story … ask
about the picture…) After two and a half glorious
years of living in the Old City, Montessori-ing, writing,
dancing and learning how to dodge people recklessly pushing
speeding carts of bread to the shuk, Ilana is looking forward
to another adventure. This time, much closer to home! If
you want to hear more about Ilana’s adventures in
band land or perhaps the record store shuffle you can email
her at ilanadora@yahoo.com. (please,
also feel free to ask questions that don’t have to
do with the aforementioned topics.) |

Gila Leah Mathias
Gila was born on May 2nd in Jerusalem. She loves to play
with toys, eat mashed bananas, and laugh. (She also enjoys
strolling on the beach and reciting poetryJ). So far,
she has gained an amazing number of skills in an extremely
short amount of time. When once she could not hold up
her head, look around, see colors, or for the most part do
anything besides allow us to take care of her, she now rolls
around, laughs, and says “Gee Gee Gee” and whispers “ush
ush” and much much |
|
| more.
We love her very much and we are sure
you will too. Gila
urges you to email her with any of your burning questions
about life at GilaGoose@hotmail.com. |

Dana T. Sicherman
Program Coordinator, Aish on Campus Washington DC
Dana was born in the mean streets of Rockland County (a fancy way of saying Monsey), New York on October twenty-second. Her birth radically changed the neighborhood … for the better. Stores opened, children danced through the streets, and mothers baked pies. Men played chess in the park, and the Jews of the area finally agreed on something. |
| |
| Dana's journey from Monsey took her to American University, where she majored in International Relations and spent a semester abroad in Israel at Hebrew University. Last summer over a plate of delicious chocolate chip cookies Dana met her husband Max Sicherman. They were married amidst great fanfare this past September second in the very town that Dana had helped to turn around. The couple now lives in the Dupont Circle area in Washington D.C. and Dana is currently Program Coordinator for AishCampus DC at AU and George Mason University. Dana would love to meet you! Please email her at danasicherman@gmail.com. |
